Wordpress or Joomla?

I have been using Wordpress ever since I can remember to format my webpage and design its layouts. My primary reason for doing so was its ease of use and all the resources that are available in case you need to learn about setting something up. Some of my friends have opted to switch to Joomla. Is it worth the switch or should I stay with Wordpress?

I once have this dilemma back when I was trying to create an online store. Basically a developer explained it well to me that If you are trying to create simply blog, classified ads or anyting, you can simply use wordpress becuase its the best software ever thats free. But if you are creating an ecommerce site, use the one thats right for it.

He explains that some of the plugins use to convert wordpress into something different might not work to future updates of the wordpress version. My suggestion is to check whether this is a possibility to whatever you wanted to do to your wordpress.

Thanks for the reply! I intend to use the website as an ecommerce site although I started the site out as a blogging tool. Now that you mentioned it, I will check on the suitability of wordpress for this...I have heard/read about Wordpress.org being used by other professional companies for their website though...will probably take a look at the possibility of going by that route.

I have only tried to use Joomla once and found it incredibly complicated for a blog so I moved onto WordPress and have not looked anywhere else since. I think Joomla is a good CMS platform but it isn't the easiest script to get to grips with.

There are many packages available for making an e-commerce site. I've been looking for a new one myself recently, and though I haven't tried it yet, this one seems a likely candidate. And it's free too.

Whilst you can use WP for a store, I've tried this, I think it's better to use dedicated software. I looked at Joomla too, and found it rather unfriendly really.

Wordpress is the simplest content management system that exists to date. You can use it for everything you want, from blogs to online stores. It has everything!

Actually wordpress is best for blogging and it has many plug-In to optimize your wordpress blog but If you want to build eCommerce website then Joomla is the good option

I vote that you stay with Wordpress.

I haven't tried Joomla but I have tried Drupal which is even more advanced than Joomla. I was trying to develop a site for processing articles for sale. After a few months, I just popped back to Wordpress to have a look. Lo! I found that all the things I wanted to do with Drupal can be done just as easily with Wordpress.

So I am back with Wordpress.

Wordpress is good. I personally like to use a nice custom framework though. Build your own!

If you don't have the skills, wordpress is awesome though.

I have had experience with both WordPress and Joomla... Joomla gets the job done if you need a small business site, but if you want a fully customization, fancy site with lots of add-ons then go with WordPress. There are so many themes and plugins out there for WordPress, pretty much 1 for any type of site.

It really depends on what you're building. If you're building basic websites and blogs, then WordPress is good. For sophisticated ecommerce sites, then Joomla would be better. Joomla has a steep learning curve. WordPress is a breeze next to Joomla.

Wordpress any day...

Joomla, every time I have used it, after logging in to the ACP, I see so many options and settings that it takes 10+ minutes to change one thing. Every time I have used Joomla, the admin area is so out of whack that it could confuse the developers lol.

True, if you are going to rely on plugins to convert Wordpress into something that it isn't initially, such as an online shopping cart - you should consider how stable and widely used the plugin is. Some developers release various plugins and then don't support them later on. On the other hand, there are plugins for it, such as Gravity Forms, that are used by thousands of people and it's very actively supported.

I haven't heard anything about Joomla. I use WordPress for my primary blogging software because is very easy to use. I have found WordPress is user-friendly and offers better CMS.

While I have never used Joomla, I have been an avid Wordpress user for the last two years. I love Wordpress. I don't think I could ever use anything else. There is so much you can do with SEO, plugins, design, and more.

Definitly Wordpress, much more plugins, big community, much easier administrator interface. Ability to manage all our sites if we have wordpres multisite enabled.
