If you are looking to buy a new Dell computer you might find something rather shocking. The option to have Mozilla firefox installed for £16 !!

Quite a lot for something that is free and opensource..

The big brands and even many of the Hardware Service providers ask for Installation Charges even if they are asked to install anything which is free and even pirated. No wonder that Dell is doing this under the pre-text of Installation Charges. But then, when they sell a computer, shouldnt they be installing what is required? Oh, yes, I guess, as it (Firefox) is not a windows thing (Microsoft) and even doesnt come bundled with Windows, that might be one reason.

Now, I wonder, if they were to install VLC media player or the others which are free, how much would they charge

Considering it takes around 10mins to install it means they are charging £1.6 per minute, which is roughly £100 per hour! If they were CCNA cisco engineers working on high end routing infrastructure then I can understand. But installing firefox :upset: which is probably done by a level 1 technician!
