Working as a web designer

Have you ever worked for a company as a web designer? What is like in this role, are the hours flexible and the salary high or is this a bad career choice?

If you get some good clients you can make a lot of money, but you've always got to be looking for future work. If the work drys up, what are you going to do? Also some people don't like your work, so you have to re-do it. This is all coming from web designer friends, personally I wouldn't get into it.

Just re-read your post, working for a company would be a safer bet. Probs worth doing!

You're referring initially to freelancers, I think it would be good as a side job to supplement a salary. If the client isn't in any hurry it can be worked on during evenings and weekends. However, as an only form of income they would have to be very talented and be able to compete with bigger companies.

I am a freelance web developer and have never had a full time job doing this. I can't imagine working a regular 9-5 shift and having the company I work for pocket most of the money for me doing the job.
