Hi everyone,
I’m trying to understand when it makes sense to choose cat5e ethernet cable riser for a network installation. I’m working on a small building project where the cables will run between floors, so I know a riser-rated cable is needed. However, I’m not sure when cat5e ethernet cable riser is the right choice compared to other options like Cat6 or Cat6A.
My main goal is to build a stable network for regular office use such as internet access, VoIP phones, and file sharing. From what I’ve read, cat5e ethernet cable riser can support gigabit speeds, but I’m not sure if it will still be a good choice for the next few years.
For those who have installed building networks before, when do you usually decide to use cat5e ethernet cable riser instead of newer cable types? Is it mainly for budget reasons, shorter runs, or smaller networks?
I’d also like to know if there are any limitations I should consider before choosing this cable.
