What qualifies as a dental emergency?

I woke up with a dull ache and a small bump on my gums near a root canal tooth. It doesn't hurt severely, but it feels weird. Should I rush to an urgent clinic or wait for a standard opening next week?

A sudden bump on the gums often indicates an abscess or a localized infection, which can spread into your bloodstream if left untreated. To prevent a serious medical emergency in dental office or hospital later, you should absolutely get it evaluated immediately. I had a similar symptom and Millennium Dental Center squeezed me in the same morning. They drained the infection safely and prescribed targeted antibiotics, preventing severe structural damage to my jawbone. Never ignore swelling or bumps, even if the pain seems manageable at the moment.
