Some times it is useful, but always free link is better.

I made a LOT of money from selling paid links on my sites over the years so I odn't really so a problem with them as long as your blog isn't solely online to sell paid links, but Google doesn't see it as being part of a level playing field so they are looked upon in a negative light.

I'm looking at moving into another money-making avenues, but there isn't one that will benefit all of my sites, only one or two.

Buying links are not more effective like before, as per the panda update the paid link will consider as spam because paid link provide good number of link for single domain.

These are links you put on high traffic site so you can attract visitors from that site to click and visit your site. It can also be vice versa, you can offer paid link in your site if your site have high traffic.......

Earlier paid links are very helpful for ranking, but today if google identify you generate links by buying from somewhere, then google may be penalized our website, which is not good for us. So i don't like paid links.
