What is the penguin Update?

Google launched the Penguin Update in April 2012 to better catch sites deemed to be spamming its search results, in particular those doing so by buying links or obtaining them through link networks designed primarily to boost Google rankings.
 
Google Penguin update was brought to penalize Link spamming. The websites using or practicing spam link building tactics would be affected by the Google Penguin update. Primarily website participating in link spamming activities like manipulative link building, low-quality link building, link exchange programs, artificial link building, automated link building, link farming, wiki spamming, comment spamming, low-quality directory submission, low-quality forum posting will be affected by Google penguin update.
 
Penguin update checks for the backlinks. If the site has bad backlinks and the Penguin updates have done. It removes the bad backlinks from the website.
 
Google Penguin refers to a set of algorithm updates for the Google search engine to help enhance the value of search query results for users.
