What is event tracking?

Event Tracking is a method available in the ga.js tracking code that you can use to record user interaction with website elements, such as a Flash-driven menu system. This is accomplished by attaching the method call to the particular UI element you want to track.

How to use it? Simply include the generated tracking event into the that last part of the link.

This refer to Google Analytics Event tracking

Example: yourdomain. com/product/promotions/onClick="_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'Product', 'Promo', 'FreeGifts',, false]);"

Event Tracking from Google Analytics. By adding a simple piece of code to the link for each image, tab, button, graphic or even text link – we can run easy to read and understand reports on how our visitors are interacting with our websites.

Event tracking is simply means user interactions with contents that can be tracked from web page independently. Google analytics provides this facility but I found that it does not track events properly, also the report it gives contain ambiguous data.

This is accomplished by attaching the method call to the particular UI element you want to track. When used this way, all user activity on such elements is calculated and displayed as Events in the Analytics reporting interface. Additionally, pageview calculations are unaffected by user activity tracked using the Event Tracking method. Finally, Event Tracking employs an object-oriented model that you can use to collect and classify different types of interaction with your web page objects.

Events are user interactions with content that can be tracked independently from a web page. Like, Downloads, mobile ad clicks, gadgets, and video plays are all examples of actions you might want to track as Events.
