If you want loads of traffic, and I'm assuming fast, then you should purchase targeted traffic. Targeted traffic is a flow of visitors who are likely to have a strong and sincere interest in the products you're promoting.
These days you can get really cheap, directed traffic from sites like SEOclerks.
 
Blogging, content essentials, forums and social networking sites are the efforts I've tried that boost my website traffic. Those should be maintained, up-to-date and used informative materials. Lastly, have a concrete plan, target market and focus on SEO first.
 
I use the following methods:

- Blog commenting
- Guest posting
- link in sig on forums
- article submission sites
- Share on social media

Obviously the guest posting one has taken a dip lately due to Google's extreme penalizing.
 
I know there are too many methods which are helps to increase website traffic but i always believe on unique and quality post. When my website traffic drop, then i add new and fresh content in my website and interlink them with my inner page of website. After that i will share those content on social media website like facebook, twitter website. I have also do social bookmarking in High PR website like delicious, reddit, stumbleupon,etc website.
