SEO stands for search engine optimization. That much has stayed the same. It refers to techniques that help your website rank higher in organic search results, making your website more visible to people who are looking for your brand, product, or service via search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo.
SEO has 2 types:
1. Onpage
2. Off page

SEO is the deep process that can be further classified into types On page SEO and Off page SEO. The techniques could be black hat or white hat.
 
1. White hat SEO utilizes techniques and methods to improve the search engine rankings of a website which don't run afoul of search engine (mainly Google) guidelines.
2. Black Hat SEO exploits weaknesses in the search engine algorithms to obtain high rankings for a website. Such techniques and methods are in direct conflict with search engine guidelines.
 
Two types of SEO techniques are On page techniques and Off page techniques.
In on page techniques you work with URL structure, keyword density and meta tags.
But Off page techniques contain QnA, podcast, video submission and web 2.0.
