shutdown PC

Sometimes in hurry I use to shutdown my pc by pressing and holding the power button ,
my friend told me that it can effect my pc but i'm doing this for many years, does it effect the pc or its fine?

It can be harmful for the computer, you should always shutdown using the shutdown menu, or configure the power button to perform a graceful shutdown. Holding the power button down may cause data corruption and in worse cases prevent the computer from starting.
