Should You Hire an Attorney for Selling Property?

Hello everyone. I’m planning to sell my home soon and my real estate agent mentioned that I might need an attorney involved in the sale, but I’m unclear why. I thought agents handled most of the paperwork. What specific legal tasks does an attorney handle that an agent doesn’t? Are there certain parts of selling property where a lawyer’s advice can prevent problems later on?

Hi there. It’s true that agents handle marketing and negotiations, but a real estate attorney focuses on legal obligations that go beyond those functions. For example, they review and prepare sales agreements, ensure proper disclosures are made, handle title issues, and can represent you if any disputes arise after closing. They also verify compliance with state regulations and can protect you if unexpected title liens show up. If you want a more detailed overview of what attorneys do in the selling process and why it helps, check out the discussion on https://kcrealestate-lawyer.com it lays out the key legal roles in property sales.
