A server that is dedicated to handling users that are not on a LAN but need remote access to it. The remote access server allows users to gain access to files and print services on the LAN from a remote location. For example, a user who dials into a network from home using an analog modem or an ISDN connection will dial into a remote access server.

A remote access server (RAS) is a type of server that provides a suite of services to remotely connected users over a network or the Internet. It operates as a remote gateway or central server that connects remote users with an organization's internal local area network (LAN).

Is this different from a RAT or Remote Access Tool? People use to use these (and still do I guess) to hack and spy on other people's computers. One really popular one in the late 90's early 2000's was called SubSeven and became pretty notorious for the havock it caused on people's systems.

Ras (Remote access Service) Ras serves is used the Local area Network. Example is the Team viewer is Best Remote Access Service. showing the desktop Clint and server.
