Outlook crashes before opening and Safe Mode doesn’t work. What should I check next?

Recently I encountered a situation where Outlook stopped opening altogether. Since Microsoft recommends troubleshooting with Safe Mode, I tried that first. Unfortunately, Outlook Fails to Open in Safe Mode as well, which makes diagnosing the problem much more difficult.

At first, I assumed an add-in was causing the issue. I removed third-party plugins, updated Outlook, and restarted the system several times. After that failed, I reset the navigation pane and even performed an Online Repair of Microsoft 365. Nothing changed.

While searching for solutions, I noticed that many Outlook startup problems are linked to mailbox corruption. If Outlook cannot properly read a PST file, it may crash before displaying any error message. The larger the mailbox, the greater the chance that corruption can affect startup performance.

Some users suggested ScanPST, and while it’s useful for minor issues, it doesn’t always repair severely damaged files. A few people reported repeated crashes even after ScanPST claimed the repair was successful.

That’s when I started looking into the DRS Softech PST Recovery Tool. From what I understand, it can recover mailbox data from corrupted PST files and restore emails, contacts, calendars, tasks, and attachments without modifying the original content. It also supports large Outlook archives, which is important for users who manage years of email history.

I’m curious whether anyone here resolved Outlook startup failures by repairing the PST file instead of reinstalling Outlook. Any real-world experiences would be helpful.
