I’ve started getting way more grey hairs than I expected at 30, and honestly, I’m not mad about it — I just don’t know what to do with them. I don’t wanna go jet black and have it look harsh, but I’m also not ready to go full silver fox either. I’ve heard stuff about blending techniques or soft highlights that make the grey look intentional instead of messy. Anyone actually tried something like that? I’m stuck between covering it all or just working with what I’ve got.

I’ve been in the exact same spot — those first greys at 30 hit different. I didn’t want the upkeep of full coverage, so I went with soft balayage that blends in the greys without hiding them completely. It made everything look intentional, kind of like a natural shimmer. Found the idea while browsing tips on the best hair color for gray hair and ended up on Hair Social’s blog — super helpful breakdowns based on skin tone and maintenance level. Honestly, it changed my whole approach. Now I’m way less stressed about hiding every strand and more into enhancing what’s already there.

Totally get where you’re coming from. I started seeing greys earlier than expected too, and honestly, leaning into it a bit can look really cool.

A lot of people I know have tried blending techniques — like lowlights or soft toners — to mix the grey in instead of covering it all. It gives a more natural, lived-in look. Might be worth chatting with a stylist who’s done that kind of work before.

Sometimes working with the grey ends up looking way better than trying to fight it.
