I was looking for the methods of white hat seo for my new website. I don't want any later issues about the quality of my backlinks. So I search on web and become aware of document sharing sites. I want to know if backlinks from these sites are helpful to rank better and if it is a part of white hat or black hat seo?

It might work, but it is not widely used today. Besides the chances of it getting published online is too few, even then the chances of your link being included is very slim (besides most websites now use nofollow).
As a result the chances of getting any link through document sharing is very slim, and so the practice is largely ignored by SEOs.

Document sharing is not at all a black hat technique but depends on how you have updated your links in the document. Just keeping is simple and natural can be of more use than adding too many links to it.
