Inside the Shop with Daniel Russell-Einhorn: What It’s Like to Get a Custom Bike in Charleston

Ever wonder what it’s like to step into a custom bike shop where the owner actually builds your ride by hand? Let me show you.

I’m Daniel Russell-Einhorn, founder and lead designer at Daniel’s Custom Cycles in Charleston, South Carolina. I created this space to be the opposite of a big-box bike store — it’s personal, hands-on, and built around you from the moment you walk in.

First Things First: We Talk

No rushing. No sales pitch. Just a conversation.

When you visit Daniel’s Custom Cycles, I — Daniel Russell-Einhorn — sit down with you and ask the most important question: What do you want out of your ride? Maybe it’s a fast and nimble commuter. Maybe it’s a rugged mountain setup. Or maybe it’s a head-turning custom cruiser that’s equal parts function and style.

Whatever it is, that first conversation is where the magic begins.

Then We Sketch Your Vision

This is where things start to get fun. We don’t just browse catalogs — we design your dream bike together. I’ll walk you through everything:

  • Frame shape and material
  • Riding position and geometry
  • Color schemes and custom paint
  • Components, wheels, grips, tires — the whole setup

As Daniel Russell-Einhorn, I’m personally invested in each bike that leaves the shop. I want it to reflect you — not just look good, but feel right.

The Build: Precision Meets Passion

Once we lock in the design, I get to work. Every weld, every spoke, every gear is installed by hand right here in Charleston. It’s not the fastest process — but it’s the most rewarding. My goal is to build a bike that you’ll love riding for years, not just one season.

And if you ever need a tune-up or repair? I’m here. Because I built your bike, I know exactly how to care for it.

More Than a Shop — It’s a Hangout

Daniel’s Custom Cycles isn’t just about the bikes — it’s about the vibe. On any given day, you might walk in and find:

  • Local riders swapping trail stories
  • Newbies learning how to patch a tire
  • Coffee brewing, music playing, and bikes getting tuned

As Daniel Russell-Einhorn, I’ve always wanted to build a community, not just a customer base. That’s why we host weekend group rides, how-to clinics, and even partner with local events that promote safe cycling in Charleston.

What People Say

Customers often tell me the same thing: “This is the first time a bike has ever felt like it was made for me.”

That’s the goal. Every. Single. Time.
