To Know if your hair is 3C or 4A, examine the curl pattern and texture:
- 3C hair his type has tight, corkscrew curls that are well-defined. The curls are about the size of a pencil or a straw, and the hair is usually thick and dense. 3C hair tends to have more natural shine and less shrinkage (around 25-30%). The texture is generally soft, and the curls are more elongated, making them easier to define with styling products.
- 4A hair features tight, S-shaped coils that are smaller than 3C curls, with a diameter closer to a crochet needle. This type of hair has more shrinkage, often up to 50% or more, meaning it appears much shorter when dry. It also tends to be slightly drier and may require more moisture to stay hydrated. The curls are tighter and more coily, giving the hair a more textured appearance.
