How Daniel Russell-Einhorn Turned a Commute Into a Cycling Movement

I never set out to be an advocate. When I first started biking to work, it was a simple decision—I wanted a quicker, greener way to get around the city. What I didn’t expect was how quickly that daily commute would open my eyes to the real issues facing cyclists in urban environments: unsafe streets, poor infrastructure, and a system that clearly wasn’t built with riders in mind.
What began as a personal choice quickly became a purpose.

The Moment Everything Shifted
After a few too many close calls and riding through neighborhoods that lacked even the most basic bike lanes, I started speaking up. I’d show up at city council meetings. I’d document my routes and share ideas on how our streets could serve people better—not just cars. Before long, I launched Ride With Daniel, a platform where I could connect with others who wanted to make our cities more bike-friendly and sustainable.

Why I Believe in the Power of the Bicycle
To me, the bike isn’t just a mode of transportation—it’s a tool for transformation. It’s cleaner, healthier, and far more community-centered than the car-centric lifestyle we’ve built. When cities support cycling, they support safer streets, better air, and stronger human connections. I’ve seen it happen in places like Amsterdam and Copenhagen—and I believe we can make it happen here, too.

Community Rides, Real Change
One of the things I’m most proud of is organizing community rides. These aren’t just group bike rides—they’re living demonstrations of what a better city could look like. Families, students, seniors… we all ride together to show that cycling should be accessible and safe for everyone.
These rides are also where the magic happens. I’ve seen strangers become friends, ideas turn into action, and neighborhoods come alive with purpose. That’s what Ride With Daniel is all about—sparking change from the street level up.

Small Wins That Matter
Through advocacy, persistence, and a growing community, I’ve seen real change happen. We’ve gotten new bike lanes installed. We’ve worked with local officials to redesign dangerous intersections. We’ve even helped shape new city policies to prioritize active transportation.
Every little win adds up. And trust me, there’s nothing like seeing a kid riding safely down a new bike lane to remind you why this work matters.

If You’re Reading This, You’re Already Part of It
If you’ve ever thought about biking more, speaking up at a city meeting, or joining a ride—you’re not alone. My message is simple: you don’t have to be an expert to make an impact. All you need is the desire to be part of a solution.
Start small. Ride once a week. Talk to your neighbors. Share your story online. Every action adds up.

Let’s Ride for Something Bigger
Whether you’re here out of curiosity or already a committed cyclist, I invite you to ride with me—literally or metaphorically. Visit my site, join a community ride, or just say hi. Together, we can reshape our streets, reclaim our cities, and make biking safer for everyone.
