Graphic Career

Let's say I've learned how to design web pages, do graphic arts and creating banners and logos without proper education, do you think there will be a place for me in a webdesign/development company? I'm just thinking maybe I can switch career if I just learn these things.

Graphics Designing As a Career

I think that art is the Natural talent and you should not need any degree to prove that you are really good. All the famous designers and artists of the past which are role models for modern designers had no degree. If you are unable to find a job then try and make your own website and put all your work on that website. All of your portfolio and every thing and you may be able to find a job. Graphic designing is also good as a career because if you are unable to find work in any company you can work as a freelancer and can find work on the internet.

I have actually began putting some of my works in deviantart.com just in case an employer will ask my portfolio. I'm not a good as of now but maybe if I learn more today through the tutorials I've acquire I can create designs that will impress people. I'm planing to buy a wacom tablet hoping this will improve my knowledge. What sort of things should I posts in my portfolio to impress an employer?

There's a place for everyone in the creative arts community. You could always sell your work as a freelancer; and doing so online is a great way to start. You could also improve your education and your credentials by taking free courses for certificates online, I have a few friends who are doing that and it's working out pretty well for them.

There are a lot of free resources online to learn Photoshop and Illustrator. That's basically how I learned them, then I ended up getting a job in web design right out of college even though I didn't major in that (it wasn't even offered as a major at the time). You could always take on projects on freelance web sites to build up your portfolio too, and make some extra money in the process. I would also recommend learning HTML and CSS along with it though, since many design jobs these days incorporate both.

I guess the career will lead to web designing after learning HTML and CSS. I'm considering buying a package from lynda.com for web design do you think its worth? I think the company is reputable for providing computer base tutorials.

Yes, invest in learning.
Honestly I do not have any experience with that package of tutorials but it seems to be a great resource.
Anyway the tip that I can give you is to advertise yourself the best that you can.
For example a friend of mine which is a art student, made some sort of facebook timeline cover for a pretty famous band, and the band ended up using her image as cover, obviously giving the author rights to her. She already got contacted by other companies/persons to make a cover or digital art for them, paid work ofc.
I know it's not directly related but if you can advertise yourself like this, do it! It only takes a bit of luck until someone will see your work, and will want to work with you. ;)

The story inspire me to really want to be in the business. She must be really good with a little luck and that someone notices her works. I think I can do it too and I'd be more lucky if I get to learn and lean more of techniques. Hope someone will contact me one day and maybe hire me to create something for them but for now, I have plans to provide banner and logo services to earn few bucks.

I'm planing to buy a better laptop so that software can be install like adobe suite which is a real hardware monster lol.

Well she draws very well, and that nice drawing in like 5 hours.
You should think about who you contact too, this band is known for being really social with the fans, they talk a lot on facebook and stuff.
So you should seek out these kind of people that will surely be amazed by your work and share it around the world ^^

Yes there is a place for you experience is something that more professional rather than you learn it with formal education. In Finland country there are many of IT services like that specializing backup and Graphics Training and learn through experience and some also learn to studying and i can say those who learn on experience they know more rather than those who are studying yet.

Of course, for being a skilled web designer, you can get enough opportunities in the real as well as the online world. Web designer is a good paying profession. Web designing jobs are in demand globally. If you have some graphic oriented, web designing, and marketing skills, or in case you are learning them to become successful in your online profession, then there are enough numbers of free websites where you can learn those specific advertising/marketing techniques. If you're able to do cold calling, and also can meet people, especially businessmen, and talk in a convincing manner about your business proposal, then you are bound to become a very busy web designer in your neighborhood! Creating a professional quality portfolio will be one of your first tasks, which will help you get lots of work in the web designing field.

HTH!

It depends on your portfolio. You need to create graphics that members will want to buy, so the better your portfolio the more clients you'll receive. A lot of graphic designers never went to college. It's very possible to have a career as a graphic designer without going to school for web design.

Absolutely! I believe anyone can train their eye to become a good graphic designer and train their brain to become good at coding. What I have found in the field is that it isn't enough (unfortunately) to be good at graphic design in order to be a web designer. You really have to buckle down and learn the code that goes along with it.

Perseverance is key. I am living proof of that as I had no idea about graphic design or coding before 2008 -- but then I buckled down and immersed myself in all things web development and design. I am happy to say that I am an employed web designer / developer and I couldn't be happier! :)

As the name precedes, Graphic Design careers are hard as normal artistian jobs. You're usually commissioned to do an artwork and get paid on the spot, but the amount of commissions you get will vary on the skill sets you have.

I mean, it's a very profitable market, but it's risks aren't really worth the time. If you can do it as a hobby, then yes! Do it! But don't quit your day job.

Its all about portfolio, no one cares about Your educations, bring nice portfolio to job nterview and thats it :)
