no doubt wordpress is better then blogger in every terms it has largest slection of themes and plugins and can be extended to multi purpose site.
 
Both are great for blogging. But I want to recommend WordPress. You will get lot of facilities in WordPress CMS for better Blogging. You can also get more revenue from Adsense if you utilize it properly with WP CMS.
 
I feel blogspot is good for less investment, while for easy access to the entire site (coding part), wordpress is greatly helpful!
However, both are good when we do it to our best. People still believe blogspot works better since it is owned by Google.

Important thing is to create a quiality content and follow adsense guidlines. Platform is secondary, but still, I would choose self-hosted Wordpress blog.

I'm glad you asked this question. I was just about to make a new thread about it, as I wish to do something like this myself. I have a small community of web writers, artists and musicians and wish to start a website where we can collectively publish our content. It's something I've been planning on doing for the last year or so and have been doing some research to try to find the best way of going about it. WordPress does seem to be the most efficient way of doing it but I have very little experience with it. I've actually always avoided WordPress for precisely that reason. Also, the contributors need to be awarded their fair share of revenue according to the amount of traffic and activity their content receives.
 
You can make money with your blog by enabling AdSense. For That blogger is the best way as it is owned by Google you can get the Adsense approval easily.
 
I fully agree with you Google Adsense is indeed the best way to make money out of your website although it imposes strict restrictions on what type of website it can be used but still its good to try and one must try it
