edu/gov back-links ?

Probably, once Google see's the tricks we're using they always devalue them. Like blog commenting was huge and now it's not worth much. A solid .EDU/GOV backlink on a homepage will be great, but if it's just blog comments or something then yeah it won't be worth much.
 
I think you website or business deals on that area, like education sector then only edu links are helpful, otherwise it will be not. If you add shopping sites in education website, than it not a relevant and you not get any weight-edge form that links. If you get links from high PR sites in their home page any other pages.

These links are known as power back links, but now a days they are also only useful for relevant category sites.
 
After the Panda update, Google has started giving more importance to Link relevancy, so one should use relevant anchor texts .Don’t get backlinks from pages having too many outbound links.Backlinks from spammy pages would negatively affect search engine rankings..EDU and .GOV links are no more important.Guest Blogging is to get backlinks from high quality websites.Strong Internal linking is good.
