My experience is that you need to find and use social sites that suite your niche. For example, if you are sports, Twitter can be good, but Fcebook will not help you much at all.
If you are serving other business then Linkedin can be good. Google plus draws very little business. If someone can give an example, that would be good.
Also, Matt Cutss has said last month that social signals are not currently part of the Google algorithm, so we should not expect big social accounts to lift us in the serps.
