As far as I know, Alexa rankings are dependent on statistics gathered from site which have the Alexa bar installed. That means it does not take into account those sites which do not have the Alexa bar installed. This, in turn, means that Alexa rankings is only accurate when compared to other sites which have the Alexa bar installed.

Traffis is the key to lowering your Alexa Ranking, I've also been told that the more people who vist your site with the Alexa toolbar installed on their browser the better it helps you ranking, no idea how true that is though. But Traffic is certainly what you should be looking to increase.
I know some people wonder why we bother with Alexa Rank and Page Rank, well if you make money in some certain areas then advertisers live and die by your Page Rank and Alexa Rank.

This is a good point so trying to raise this alexa rank is something that we could certainly benefit from. Unfortunately, this tactic has a lot less attention than SEO and therefore knowledge in how to increase it is lesser known. Is it therefore recommended that we should encourage all visitors to install this alexa toolbar?

Many people would disagree with me, but they don't make money writing sponsored posts, one area where advertisers don't care about quality, it is all about the PR and Alexa Rank.

Site traffic reflects on Alexa ranking. So, in order to improve ranking on Alexa you need to improve your traffic first.

Add Relevant People and Businesses to Your Circles Follow people and businesses you are interested in, and many will follow you back. Unlike Facebook or some other social networks, where you will find lots of fake profiles, Google Plus is not very crowded. Plus, the restrictions are not as limiting as they are at some other networks. If you have spent time buffing up your profile, description, and image, etc. simply adding relevant people to your circles will result in a majority of the people adding you back. You can also try SEOclerks, there are many freelancers here providing Alexa ranking at a cheap rate
Install alexa toolbar and ask your friend to do the same and then make your website your homepage this will make a huge improvement in your alexa rank but it's not worth to think about alexa tough.
