Windows 8.1 no longer supported?

The initial installation of windows 8.1 will no longer be supported with security updates! Instead, you need to install a particular update for it, in order to get the new ones. Confusing, but this will probably only effect those that install updates manually rather than automatically.
 
What do you mean by initial installation? Do you mean the computers that had it installed when it first came out? Do you know what this update is, and why it prevents other updates?

Microsoft seems to like to date their programs fast as of late...
 
Microsoft have released something called Windows 8.1 Update 1. For those who are still using just Windows 8.1, they will no longer receive security updates and will be left in the lurch like XP users. Basically Windows 8.1 is no longer supported, users must install Windows 8.1 Update 1 in order to receive new patches.

Another clanger by MS me thinks!
