You need to first verify if you website has been hit by any search engine updates. You will receive a message in webmaster tool. Also you need to check your backlinks and website content to improve ranking for your website again.
 
First optimize your webpage for the keywords you have chosen, Place your primary keywords in the important place like title, description and content area. build high quality back links with keywords in the anchor text.
 
The basic reason behind having drop in rankings is that, you are losing backlinks that you previously built or your competitors are working hard on backlink building strategy. Work on building backlinks on regular basis. This will help in improving the rankings and as well as keeping them on better position.

There can be tons of reasons for this, starting from poor link building strategies, sudden drop of quality of website from where your website gets great many links, Website being hacked, Change to website structure/internal architecture, Competitor becoming better than you lately or/and a New Google Update making your existing strategies as obsolete. (This is one common reason).

Unless you specify your website or specify what you did recently no one can pinpoint the reason for dropping in SEO performance.
