Which XML sitemap should be added in the website?

Hi Friends,

I am having a WordPress blog, because of which I am having multiple sitemaps in the website. I did research on the same and came to the conclusion that I can mention all sitemap under one XML sitemap, which is known as Sitemap Index.

But now my confusion is whether I should add website old sitemap in the website i.e. mywebsite.com/sitemap.xml or to add the new XML i.e. mywebsite.com/sitemap-index.xml? Or to have both the XML files in the root directory.

Please help me with suggestion.

Better generate the new sitemap and use the same old sitemap URL (i.e)mywebsite.com/sitemap.xml

WordPress XML sitemap also tells search engines which links on your website are more important than others and how frequently you update your website.
