What is the difference between a smart phone and a simple mobile device?

I am willing to know the major differences between the two types of mobile devices. These days everybody loves to be called as the owner of a smart phone. What is so special about it?
 
Smartphones have access to download apps. Google Play Store or App Store on Android and iOS. You can download games which can entertain you, you can download an app that allows you to read books, and you can access the internet for free if you have WiFi access. A simple mobile device can't do that. They can only send texts, play installed mobile games, and call people. Not as effective as smartphones.
 
These simple mobile phones which used to be considered a technological marvel a few years back are now labelled as dumbphones in comparison with the current smartphone market. The difference as the nicknames suggest, is that a dumbphone is only able to make and recieve calls, text and other mundane tasks while a smartphone is literally a computer that fits in your hand.
 
Regular cellphones (at least my old one, a Pantech Lazer) can also download basic games, such as Bejeweled and Tetris. However, for everything else, you are indeed correct. Smartphones are pretty mcuh superior in every way except maybe battery life, but even that is rapidly starting to become less and less of a problem with today's technology.
