Yes apple amazon and others made alot of money for people butt thier are 100 companies like them that did not. Most people never sell when companies do very well and sometimes they go way back down. Dividends will be paid you made some money back every time.
Reits do very well over time and are good for retirement account because the dividends will not be taxed. I made money on single dividends stocks and lost money on some. I am ahead with the ones that made money. You can buy etfs that have high yield dividend stocks look for ones that increase dividends every year they do better than index like sp 500.
The best stocks for beginners 2021 example would be etfs for dividend aristocrats. Thier are mutiple etfs from different companies. You can also buy mutual funds but they cost more in fees and do the same thing as the etfs. If market goes down dividend stocks go down less and if you reinvest dvidends automaticaly you buy more at lower cost and earn more dividends next dividend date.
This is better than compound interest with a twist you get capital appreciation also.
