Both are the backlinks, but what makes them dissimilar is its functionality that impacts on the search engines.
No-follow is the link that does not allow the search engine bot to crawl that link and stops the link juice. But human can be able to see it and follow that links. Usually, no-follow links are not much recommended by the search engines. No-follow links can be used on social media when you are targeting to get traffic only through bigger target audience.
Example to no-follow: <a href=”http://www.abc.com/” rel=”nofollow”>abc</a>
Do follow is the right way of backlinking, where the Google bots are allowed to see and crawl the link and reach your website. Do follow link definitely passes the link juice It instructs the search enginer crawlers/spiders to follow the link. Do follow is used for creating brand values and get good page ranking. It is recommended to build higher PR do follow links to improve the reputation of the website.
Example to do follow: <a href=”http://www.abc.com/”>abc</a>

Do follow is hyperlink inclusion that tells search engines to pass on any credibility or influence to an outbound link. When Google bot visits a website it reads website pages and includes links with do follow attribute and excludes link with no follow attribute. Nofollow is html tag that website owners, add to links in their website for the search engines not to crawl, notice, or acknowledge a link. While a nofollow link is ignored, but popular social networking site like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Myspace sites are nofollow, but they do provide a lot of other benefits.

In simple word Google spider will crawl the do follow links on other hand google will not crawl the link. Do follow links also give the back link but other does not they are just traffic.

Dofollow boost your site on the top of google , but if you have to many link dofollow google bot will think your site is "unatural" and will punish you . And in this time , nofollow link take an action make the bot see your site natural and you will be go on top safely . Some pro SEO teached me the good raitos is 7:3

Dofollow links used for Relevant content,Content that is useful for visitors and Internal links.

No follow Backlinks used for Irrelevant content,Affiliate links,Comments,Advertising,Footer links and Sponsored links.

A dofollow link will pass the SEO strength, or "PageRank" of the page to the site that it links to. A nofollow link, in theory, will not do this. That's the main difference between the two.
