What is Backlink?

Backlinks are links that are directed towards your website. The number of backlinks is an indication of the popularity or importance of that website. Backlinks are important for SEO because some search engines, especially Google, will give more credit to websites that have a good number of quality backlinks, and consider those websites more relevant than others in their results pages for a search query.
 
In search engine optimization (SEO) terminology a backlink is a hyperlink that links from a Web page, back to your own Web page or Web site. Also called an Inbound Link (IBL) these links are important in determining the popularity (or importance) of your Web site. Some search engines, including Google will consider Web sites with more backlinks more relevant in search results pages. May also be written as two separate words, back link.
 
Backlinks are URLs placed on a webpage with the help of keywords hyperlinked to redirect traffic to your website. These backlinks are helpful to build keyword ranking and also generate traffic from them.
 
Backlinks are commonly referred to as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, or inward links. Conversely, links on your website or web page going to another website/page are called outgoing links, outbound links, outlinks, or outward links. What is an inbound link for your website is an outbound link for that website’s owner and vice versa.
