Work on bringing traffic to your website, alexa ranking will improve. The Alexa ranking is directly linked with traffic that your website is receiving. It doesn't matter where the traffic coming from, more the traffic, better is alexa ranking.

I don't think what matters for the Alexa rank is the number of Backlink, irrespective of the number and quality of backlink.

No, Sam is right. Alexa has absolutely nothing to do with backlinks (unless they lead to more traffic to your website.)

Alexa ranking is calculated by counting the relative number of people with the Alexa toolbar installed that visit your website vs. other websites.

It's incredibly inaccurate and you shouldn't really worry about it. Focus on traffic, not silly numbers. :)
