Transferring stuff to new smartphone

What is the best way to transfer all of your items from your old smartphone to your new one? Saving contacts in the phone to the sim card is one way, except when the new sim card is a micro sim and therefore doesn't fit :shame:

Is there a backup and restore app that can also include text messages for transfer?
 
I backup contacts and apps on my Google account, so whatever phone I'm on I can download it all. Easy to do too! Music and other stuff like that I just backup to my PC and manually transfer it.
 
If you are on Android, most of your stuff should already be backed up on Google's servers including your contacts, bookmarks, and other things. When in doubt, I like to just email myself the other important files. That way not only can I easily pull them down into my phone, but they will remain in my gmail account for future use too. This is especially helpful if your new phone doesn't have a slot for a memory card.
