SMM or SMO which would be more effective?

I want to increase my website traffic, so considering to get benefit from social media websites. But, should I run SMM campaigns OR do SMO for it?

AS other people said bothe are important. both will have their own importance. But somehow, SMO can be one of the ways to encourage SMM activities by users and visitors of your website. SMO is more effective than SMM.

I would say at current time SEO is more effective than SMO. However, in actuality I believe that SMO is a part of SEO. Nevertheless, I think a meaningful distinction can be made that justifies the question.
