Ranking without back link

I have read one of news on Search Engine Land that one of site is ranking without back link.
Is it possible? What you guys would say about this?

Yes it is possible. my many pages are ranking without getting any back link... just focus on internal link structure.. keep posting in your site blog section and give a internal backlink to those page that you want to rank

Of course many keywords are ranking without backlinks but if you want to get rank high volume keywords then you need to do link building.

As long as there are too few competition, it is possible to rank without keywords. But otherwise the only possible treason would be content value, but even that has it's own limits. (However EMD, or Exact match domains (Exact match keywords as Domain name like SEOservices(dot)com) might sometimes out rank other websites without backlinks).

This is partly true. If you try to rank a brand new website no matter how small the competition is, you will find it really hard. I am not saying about local rankings. Local SEO is something different. If you have a quite authoritative domain, then yes you may be able to rank a new URL almost out of the box by passing link juice from internal pages to the new one. So the truth is somewhere in between
