Old Domain vs New Domain SEO

We are planning to launch a new hotel booking website in a couple of months. We have yet to decide the name of the domain which we will be launching this new project. Our SEO company guided us to purchase a old domain from some domain auction and they are saying that they think an old name will be more suitable for SEO purposes as compared to a brand new domain name. Good old domain names are available in auctions with a price tags of thousands of dollars.

Please suggest us what should we do and will it be a wise strategy to purchase an old domain domain as compared to starting a new website on a completely brand new domain name.

Your SEO Company is right. Purchasing an Old Domain benefits you in SEO Process, Domain age is also an important factor in Google Algorithm.
Old domain has crawled & indexed so many times from crawlers so that you get indexed domain and may be it has high PR & good Alexa rank.
If the product that the old domain was selling previous match to your products than you have get lots of targeted visitors.

Whenever I'm doing SEO research of SERPS for given keywords, particularly competitive ones, I do usually see most of the first page listings are sites with older domains.

I have two thoughts...

1. If you want to go for older domain, as you said you need to pay thousands of dollar
2. If you will buy a New Domain, the same thousands of dollar can be used for promotion..

Choice is yours..!!

Thanks :)
