Historically except Kuwaiti Dinar which is currently the highest valued currency in the world, until 1991 Iraqi Dinar was very high at some time higher than Kuwaiti Dinar. That is why it was dubbed as the “Iraqi Swiss Dinar” due to fact that the currency was printed in Switzerland and also because Iraq during the 1970's and until the beginning of 1990's it was considered the ‘Switzerland’ of the Arab World. Of course, this changed radically with the Gulf War of 1991 and the sanctions imposed to Iraq in the aftermath resulting in devaluation of Iraqi Dinar. In the contrary Kuwaiti Dinar soared and it is considered since the highest valued currency not just in the region, but worldwide.
