Only one would would probably match for a given search, if you mean in the same period of time, I doubt many moderate sites get onto page one for that many subjects.
Ranking position is highly dependent on the competition for the given keyword, when you see millions of results for a given keyword the odds of being in he top 10 are small. IF you target 20 different "long tail" keywords of 3 to 5 words you have a better chance of ranking high, but the number of clicks would be smaller.
ˇTo monitor the ranking progress of these 20 keywords you could use a tool that checks all of them at once. You could use either the free rankchecker for firefox http://tools.seobook.com/firefox/rank-ch... or the rankcheker in the free evaluation version of SEO Powersuite http://www.link-assistant.com/rank-track... to generate a search ranking report for the list of keywords, the latter has some other analysis functions.
