In the old days it was once necessary to use BOLD and ITALIC throughout your content in order to make keyword phrases stick out. This helped the search engines discover relevancy to your website. However as with all SEO, at some level it is abused, but does it turn out to be pointless?

The search engines have progressed since those days, nevertheless the bold/italic tags will still be incorporated in the algorithm, and therefore must still be implemented, but sparingly. Only one bold keyword and key phrase, and one italic per page. More significant currently is the in site linking, use keywords on a web page to like straight to another page on your web site.

Yes, Google need very professional content in a webpage to evaluate well to index as top one. If article has Proper title relevant to blog, Title has h1 or h2 tag, then summary related to title, summary title with h2 or h3 tag then article description content with bold, italic and underline tag would help as quality content.
