Is it legal to pay people to share my sites on facebook?

I would like to have more shares on sites like twitter, FB,reddit etc... Is it legal to pay people to spread the word about my sites to their networks?

It's not spam. It's genuine. Facebook sent it out to those they sponsored in an ad without their permission...

I have no idea if it is legal or not, but what I do know is that Facebook were intelligent enough to realise that people were doing it and rather than spend money fighting it they decided to get in on the action and offer a sponsored service.
