Is Directory Submission still effective for SEO?

Directory submissions are no more important as Google considers these directory sites as spam or 'thin' sites with very less content. These sites are rarely crawled and indexed in search engines.

In recent years, Directory Submissions have taken on low priority, when compared to other SEO techniques. Backlinks are always very important and essential for websites to rank well, but always count on the quality of the links than the number. SEO experts always think twice on directory submissions after the penguin update, they are thought to be spammy but when done safely, there are great foundation for your website providing the dofollow backlinks.

Directory submission is now not that much effective technique, but don't totally ignore it as it can help you in getting some backlinks. DMOZ directory is still very effective as it is associated with several search engines like AOL, also the approval process for Dmoz is quite better than other directories. So keep focus on Dmoz.
