I heard Facebook would start charging it's member's a fee! Is this True?

I think it's an ugly rumor. But if it turns out to be true, I wouldn't pay to use Facebook.

I don't think this is true at all, Facebook should know that none of its members will pay to use Facebook. Many will quit and not pay which will leave members with a lower friends count, this means less connections which will cause the paid members to quit all together. Facebook wouldn't last a week if they made it a paid site.

I don't even view Facebook as a site that's worth using my time for free, so I wouldn't pay a membership charge. I don't hate Facebook, I just feel that it has lost it's value to me lately. Right now I'm using it to stay connected with family and friends. I may consider using it for marketing one day, but I'm truly not sure at this point. I could live without Facebook. If they start charging a fee, I will leave!

There is no way I would continue to use Facebook's services if they included a fee! I'm sorry but the site just doesn't offer enough for me to pay for it. I'm sure there would be plenty of willing customers, though.

I doubt that they would do that, it would cause a riot! I don't use Facebook that much now anyway, and I would have to weigh my decision if ever it does happen. If it is still lucrative and I could see myself getting a return on my investment, then I would probably be okay with it. I doubt it will be okay with the regular consumer that doesn't even use it to monetize, though, so I doubt I'll have anyone left to sell things to there anyway if ever that happens.

I believe rumors like this have been around as early as Myspace and livejournal just to scare some people off and away from those sights. As ugly a marketing campaign as it is, those working against you do not like the fact that you are doing will and will spread stuff like this around to scare off your member in an attempt to get them to go to your site.

Just checked with Google. Nothing new on this development. Yet. If this is true then Facebook is definitely guilty of abusing the very people who made it what it is today. Let's face it. What is Facebook without all the users? I think Facebook has forgotten that it's users are not tied to it by any kind of contract. There's nothing to stop it users from leaving and joining another social networking service. Or setting up their own.

I'm not sure about this, but I think Facebook has launched a pilot wherein you get charged to send a message to someone who has no direct/indirect (friend of a friend of a friend...) connection to you. I saw it on the news the other day, and they explained it there. Depending on how "distant" that person is connected to you, the amount of the charge increases if you're sending a message to that person. Funnily enough, some of those that were interviewed said they would be willing to pay for the service - if it meant being able to send a message to their favourite stars or something to that effect. Essentially, if you want to avoid getting charged, add them as a friend first and hope they approve your request.

Oh yes, I can understand how people are prepared to pay to send a message to someone they are very interested in. In my country, there is an sms service where people watching shows can send in their vote for their favorite contestant. Yes, they have to pay for the service but they pay it willingly.

Yes, they have already made it so that if you send messages to someone who isn't your friend, you have to pay $1 for it to go to their inbox. Otherwise, it goes into a "hidden" folder that doesn't alert them when they get a message. The games are all grubbing for cash now too. It's pretty crappy if you ask me.

Facebook is trying to squeeze every dollar out of the site it can. They've incorporated a lot of paid features like "promoting" status updates and paying for messages to people you aren't friends with as mentioned above. It'd be no suprise to me if facebook charged fee's for membership, look what myspace turned into after a couple years. The big social media / networking sites are always huge successes at first, but then the next big thing comes around like twitter and they start hurting. To compensate for lower revenue they have to implement some kind of way to make more money such as charging a facebook membership fee. Sad but true :(

No I don't believe Facebook will ever charge a fee. Even on their homepage it says that it is free and always will be. They are getting ridiculous with the promoting posts and pages tho in my opinion, but your membership will remain free. I am getting annoyed that my posts on my fan page do not see as much traffic (especially if I post a link), but yet every time I login I see a promoted page's post in my news feed. It used to be promoted was on the side bar, that was fine. But to see all these things come up in my news feed gets to be annoying.

I don't think they are planning to begin charging a membership fee, but apparently there are some other things they are planning to being charging for like certain apps that can be used with Facebook. I have noticed, since Facebook was sold, I get more information from their administrators regarding advertising on their site. Because I write articles and blogs, I do use Facebook to share those articles with family/friends and whom ever may see the articles. Yes, they have certainly been going harder with contacting members regarding advertising. I do have a feeling they may begin charging us to post certain things so you can pay for advertising.

Are people still believing this? It was being posted all over Facebook about a year ago and hundreds of thousands of people believed it and kept sharing the images that were supposed to be a form of protest. Facebook are not going to charge their members to use Facebook.

I think Facebook never charge its members. If if it starts to charge then I am sure half of its users would leave. In order to stay popular, Facebook should be free.
