Hey everyone,
I’m Daniel Russell-Einhorn, the guy behind Daniel’s Custom Cycles here in Charleston, SC. I wanted to share a bit about how I got into custom bike building, what fuels my passion, and why I believe more people should consider riding a bike that’s built just for them.
Whether you’re a casual rider, a full-on cycling junkie, or just bike-curious, I hope this post gives you some insight into what we do—and why it matters.
Like a lot of folks, I started riding out of necessity. When I was at the College of Charleston, I needed a cheap, fast, and eco-friendly way to get around. But pretty soon, it turned into something more.
I fell in love with the simplicity of cycling, the way it connects you to the environment, and how it gives you total freedom. I also started noticing that most bikes weren’t built with real people in mind—they were mass-produced, generic, and often didn’t feel quite right. So I thought: What if I could build bikes that actually matched a rider’s body, style, and purpose?
That question led me to where I am today.
I opened Daniel’s Custom Cycles over 16 years ago, and it’s grown into a full-service shop where I get to do what I love every day: design and build custom bicycles that are made to ride like a dream.
Here’s what we specialize in:
Every custom bike I build is designed from the ground up—no cookie-cutter frames, no off-the-shelf assumptions. I take your measurements, your goals, your riding style, and we build something that’s 100% you.
Charleston has a strong commuter cycling culture, and I’ve built dozens of bikes designed for daily riders—lightweight, durable, and styled to stand out.
For those who love dirt, trails, and adventure, I design mountain bikes that can handle whatever you throw at them. Suspension, geometry, tire clearance—you name it, I’ve dialed it in.
Whether your chain snapped mid-ride or you need a full tune-up, we offer expert bike repair and maintenance to keep you rolling.
One of the best things about running this shop is the community it’s created. We’re not just selling bikes—we’re connecting people. We organize:
I love seeing people come in for a repair and leave with new friends or a new passion for cycling.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that fit matters more than flash. You can buy a high-end brand name, but if it doesn’t fit your body and lifestyle, it won’t make you want to ride.
The other big takeaway? Cycling isn’t just about gear—it’s about freedom. A well-fitted bike can change your entire relationship with your city, your health, even your state of mind. And building that bike? It’s what gets me up every morning.
If you’ve ever felt like your current bike isn’t quite you, or you’re ready to invest in something that actually fits and lasts, I’d love to talk.
You can find me at Daniel’s Custom Cycles in Charleston, SC, or drop me a message through our site. Whether you’re curious about a full build or just need some honest advice, I’m here to help.
Thanks for reading—and ride safe out there.

My Cycling Journey: From College Commuter to Custom Bike Builder
Like a lot of folks, I started riding out of necessity. When I was at the College of Charleston, I needed a cheap, fast, and eco-friendly way to get around. But pretty soon, it turned into something more.
I fell in love with the simplicity of cycling, the way it connects you to the environment, and how it gives you total freedom. I also started noticing that most bikes weren’t built with real people in mind—they were mass-produced, generic, and often didn’t feel quite right. So I thought: What if I could build bikes that actually matched a rider’s body, style, and purpose?
That question led me to where I am today.
What Makes Daniel’s Custom Cycles Different?
I opened Daniel’s Custom Cycles over 16 years ago, and it’s grown into a full-service shop where I get to do what I love every day: design and build custom bicycles that are made to ride like a dream.
Here’s what we specialize in:
Custom Bike Builds
Every custom bike I build is designed from the ground up—no cookie-cutter frames, no off-the-shelf assumptions. I take your measurements, your goals, your riding style, and we build something that’s 100% you.
Urban & Commuter Bikes
Charleston has a strong commuter cycling culture, and I’ve built dozens of bikes designed for daily riders—lightweight, durable, and styled to stand out.
Mountain & Trail Bikes
For those who love dirt, trails, and adventure, I design mountain bikes that can handle whatever you throw at them. Suspension, geometry, tire clearance—you name it, I’ve dialed it in.
Full-Service Repairs
Whether your chain snapped mid-ride or you need a full tune-up, we offer expert bike repair and maintenance to keep you rolling.
Community Is at the Heart of What I Do
One of the best things about running this shop is the community it’s created. We’re not just selling bikes—we’re connecting people. We organize:
- Group rides (casual and competitive)
- Workshops (like fixing a flat, winter bike prep, or advanced tuning)
- Bike advocacy events (pushing for better bike lanes in Charleston)
I love seeing people come in for a repair and leave with new friends or a new passion for cycling.
Lessons I’ve Learned from the Saddle
If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that fit matters more than flash. You can buy a high-end brand name, but if it doesn’t fit your body and lifestyle, it won’t make you want to ride.
The other big takeaway? Cycling isn’t just about gear—it’s about freedom. A well-fitted bike can change your entire relationship with your city, your health, even your state of mind. And building that bike? It’s what gets me up every morning.
Thinking About a Custom Bike? Let’s Talk.
If you’ve ever felt like your current bike isn’t quite you, or you’re ready to invest in something that actually fits and lasts, I’d love to talk.
