How to update from Windows 7 to windows 8?

I was using a laptop with windows 7 previously. Day before yesterday i ordered my new laptop which has windows 8. I was wondering how i can transfer my files and my entire stuff from the old laptop to the new?
 
I'm really not sure, what I would do would be to try to contact Microsoft customer service and ask one of the representatives. However, did you even check before ordering the laptop to see if it's possible to transfer files like that?
