How To Keep Credit Card Secure While Online Shopping

I have never used credit card for online shopping but there is a website which does not accept paypal or any other form of payment and the only option they offer is Credit Card purchase. I do not feel comfortable in giving credit card online because i am not sure that if there can be any problems in the future like misuse of card or other.

Please tell me what precautions should be taken while the credit card is used online and what are the methods i can use to make myself more secure while shopping.
 
I'd avoid using that site, unless you trust them with your credit card information. You can also go buy a prepaid card and use that instead, that way they won't have your real credit card information.
 
Things to check first;

Is the company a registered company?
Do they use SSL to encrypt their data?
Are they reputable?

If yes to all of those, you are probably ok.

I'd use a credit card rather than a debt card as you can do a charge back more easily if any problems do arise.
 
I would activate my credit card's secure keys and make sure to change it after I make the purchase. Most credit card companies offer this additional security feature nowadays. Just don't forget what the new key is after you've changed it.
 
Its advisable to check the reliability of that online business before entering the credit card info there. Most of the online businesses accept paypal payments. Check whatz the reason they are not accepting paypal. Also check if there is an alternative site which sells the same product which is more reliable and accepts other payment modes.

I don't usually trust a site that doesn't take Paypal unless it is a big company like Kohl's or something like that. If they take other processors but not Paypal, I definitely don't trust them because they may have got banned which would be a bad sign.

But if you really want to order something from the site and are afraid of giving your card info, you should try getting a prepaid credit card for these transactions. Something like Serve by American Express which is free to have (no monthly fees like some of the prepaid cards have.) You load money onto the card and buy what you want to buy. They cannot do any unauthorized transactions if it is prepaid and there is no money on your card. I love prepaid cards for this reason! And they are just like using a credit card except you need to have the money on the card to buy something.
