Hi Google sandbox is a filter system that google put on new sites or sites that do not have authority. So if your site does not have much trust in the eyes of google then you are more then likely going to get sandboxed.The sandbox doesn't affect the whole website but instead it affects highly competitive keywords this is the reason why you are ranking for some keywords and not others.
