How to check penalized or banned websites ?

I would like to know that How can we check that the website has been penalized or banned by Google?

You should put the url in Google and check for the pages return

I think you have to check if the website lose its organic traffic and if the traffic has been drop its some kind of a complex process but its one why to check it.

If we search the name of website without www. or extension like .com and website appears in search then it is not penalized nor banned and if it doest not appear then it may be penalized or banned.
