How does Google Disavow Tool work?

The tool allows site owners to submit a list of URLs and domains of incoming links that they would like Google to ignore. This means that Google will no longer penalize a site for bad link building practices, providing those links have been disavowed. I just started writing a series of blog posts that look at the fundamentals of some major SEO tools. My first subject was the link disavowal tool.

Disavow backlinks
This is a two-step process. First, you’ll need to download a list of links to your site. Next, you’ll create a file containing only the links you want to disavow and upload this to Google.

Download links to your site
On the Webmaster Tools homepage, click the site you want.
On the Dashboard, click Search Traffic, and then click Links to Your Site.
Under Who links the most, click More.
Click Download more sample links. If you click Download latest links, you'll see dates as well.

Use this tool only after you tried to manually remove all the Spam links. Simply create a file listing all the URL's you want Google to remove from your website's link profile and submit it. Though keep in mind, the tool should be used as a last resort.
