How Can We Improve Our Transactions?

My brother is into business right now and he asked me to take care of the processing and payments. By the way, he wants it to be automated. I just thought that he is correct with it. By the way, As a seller of course we want to ship goods and receive payments without delay. I heard about this EDI. What is EDI? Is this a good strategy to improve our transactions? I will really appreciate if you could share details about it here.
