Does load balancers protect against DDoS?

I am currently looking for a service with network resources. My site has been hit by quite a lot of DDoS attacks lately. We are improving our protection over time and I was advised to use load balancers as an additional layer of protection. Is this really effective?

Of course, because they redirect traffic between servers if one of the servers becomes vulnerable. Load balancers are included in network resources and I usually use them at lifeincloud.com. They also have cloud firewall, VPC and other functionality, and they don't charge a lot of money for these services. I think it would be useful for you to stop DDoS attacks.
